Poroshenko: $1.1 bln seized from Yanukovych's regime credited to State Treasury's accounts

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says that funds worth $1.1 billion confiscated from Ukraine's ousted ex-president Viktor Yanukovych have been credited to the accounts of the State Treasury, according to the presidential press service's statement following Poroshenko's meeting with Finance Minister Oleksandr Danyliuk and head of the National Bank of Ukraine Valeria Gontareva.

The remittance of these funds will strengthen the financial and banking system, increase the stability of the hryvnia and create an investment attractiveness of the Ukrainian economy, the president said.

"By the way, I want to say that no complaint has been lodged against this decision so far. Moreover, the so-called owners, who would have shown their claims to this money, did not appear as well," the head of state said, adding that justice was restored due to the resolute actions of law enforcement agencies and the court's decision.

These funds will also be credited to the state foreign exchange reserves," Poroshenko stressed.

In addition to $1.1 billion credited to the State Treasury, $200 million in securities will be transferred to the Ministry of Finance and the internal debt will be reduced by this amount, the finance minister said.

"This will help stabilize the country's financial system and this is a very positive signal," Danyliuk added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the court decision to transfer $1.5 billion arrested on the accounts of Yanukovych and his entourage to the state budget came into force on April 28.
