Ukraine more than doubles honey exports in four months

Ukrainian companies exported 21,900 tonnes of honey in the first four months of 2017, which is 2.3 times up on the same period last year, according to the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club (UCAB).

"Honey exports in January-April 2017 totaled 21,900 tonnes, which was 2.3 times, or 12,400 tonnes, up on the same period of 2016," the UCAB's press service said.

Major buyers of Ukrainian honey were the United States (US$12.6 million, or 34% of total exports), Germany ($8.5 million, or 23%), and Poland ($3.7 million, or 10%).

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine exported a record high 56,900 tonnes of honey last year, which was 58.2% up on 2015. It was almost six times higher than in 2011. The exports in monetary terms totaled $97.3 million, which was 15.8% up on the year before.

By January 11, Ukraine had fully used its annual quota for duty-free exports of honey to the European Union in 2017. It was set at 5,200 tonnes of honey.
