Ukrzaliznytsia invited to mend railway tracks in Poland

CEO of Ukraine's state-owned railways operator Ukrzaliznytsia Wojciech Balczun has announced his company will repair railway tracks in another country for the first time in its history.

"Our railwaymen with their equipment have been invited to Poland to perform a cycle of operations at the Medyka station. To this end, Ukrzaliznytsia's branch – the Center for Repairs and Maintenance of Track Machines and the Polish company ZUE S.A. have signed a contract," he wrote on Facebook on May 13.

The contract is estimated at EUR 159,500.

The Ukrainian specialists will work in Poland in two stages: in June and in September-October this year. At the Medyka station, they will be engaged in cleaning of crushed stone, surfacing, stabilizing, planning the ballast along 12.2 km of secondary railway tracks, and adjusting 25 sets of points for 1520mm gauge track.

"In addition, ZUE S.A. will buy 20,000 cubic meters of crushed stone of 40-70 fraction from Ukrzaliznytsia's branch – the Center for Industrial Management, which is additional investment in our company," Balczun added.
