Ukraine sees 11% decline in deficit of foreign trade in four months

The deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods and services in January-April 2017 was estimated at US$1.595 billion, which was 11% down from a deficit of $1.793 billion year-over-year (y-o-y), according to the website of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

The deficit of foreign trade in commodities fell by 2.3% in January-April 2017, to $2.163 billion y-o-y, while the surplus of foreign trade in services rose by 34.9%, to $568 million.

The deficit of foreign trade was estimated at $360 million in April 2017. In particular, there was a $478 million deficit of trade in goods, but trade in services saw a $118 million surplus.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the surplus of foreign trade in 2016 was $337.3 million, which was 90.9% lower than the surplus recorded in 2015 at $3.828 billion, according to the State Statistics Service.

However, the National Bank of Ukraine, Ukraine's foreign trade in goods and services showed a deficit of $5.581 billion in 2016.
