Over 76,000 tonnes of Donbas coal smuggled to Russia within month – NGO

Russian Railways (RZD) Logistics illegally shipped 76,300 tonnes of coal from the occupied areas in Donetsk region controlled by the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic ("DPR") to Russia in May, according to Ukrainian NGO Sprotyv.info.

The plan of shipments was approved by the Economic Development Ministry of the Russian Federation, Sprotyv.info said.

Out of the 76,300 tonnes of Ukrainian coal, 9,800 tonnes was produced by state-owned mines, 63,800 tonnes of coal was extracted by so-called secondary market enterprises, and 2,700 tonnes was produced by Mine Zhdanivska PJSC.

"The remuneration of the specially created, 'DPR'-registered state enterprise Republican Center 'Coal of Donbass' for such illegal actions amounted to RUB 7.2 million (about US$121,000)," the NGO said.
