Ukraine expects verdict on 2009 gas contacts with Gazprom by end of November

Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister for European integration Olena Zerkal says that the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC) may give its final verdict on a claim filed by NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine against Russia's gas giant Gazprom under a 2009 gas purchase contract late in November, according to TV Channel 5.

"The timeframe has been shifted a little, and tentatively, it's the end of November," she said when asked when the final decision by the arbitration court on the Naftogaz vs. Gazprom claim is expected.

In her words, this is connected mainly with "estimates concerning the fulfillment of the decision in terms of arbitration."

The parties must come to a common denominator, and then, if they do not come to the common denominator, the arbitration will be engaged in the consideration of this issue," the deputy minister said.

She also noted the influence of the summer holiday factor.

"What is more, they have been considering this in correlation with the second case. It concerns [Russian gas] transit [via Ukraine]. Of course, there is a certain correlation," she said.

"In fact, we ourselves are interested in simultaneous estimates within the framework of these two cases," she said.

In this regard, Zerkal noted that the decision on the other case is also expected by the end of November.
