Transit supplies of Russian gas via Ukraine grow by 21%

Transit shipments of natural gas from Russia through the Ukrainian gas transportation system (GTS) grew by 21% in January-June 2017, to 45.7 billion cubic meters year-over-year, according to the press service of the new gas transport system operator PJSC Trunk Gas Pipelines of Ukraine.

Russian gas supplies to European consumers via Ukraine are expected to reach 90 billion cubic meters by the end of 2017 if such a dynamic growth maintains, the company said in a statement.

"Last week's cyber attack did not affect the operation of Ukraine's gas transportation system," the press service added.

Transit shipments of gas in January-May 2017 increased by 21.8%, to 38.3 billion cubic meters.

On June 27-29, computer systems of many Ukrainian users, including critical infrastructure enterprises, countered a massive hacker attack spreading the Petya.A ransomware. The SBU Security Service of Ukraine insists the attack could have originated from the territory of Russia or Russian-occupied Donbas. A number of experts suggest that the real purpose of the attack was to test Ukraine's resilience to cyber threats and weaken its economy.
