Two U.S. companies want to extract oil, gas in Ukraine

"The Interdepartmental Commission has taken into consideration applications from Frontera Resources and Longfellow (both based in the United States) for hydrocarbon exploration and production, including from non-traditional sources, within the subsoil plots mentioned by these companies in Odesa and Poltava regions, respectively. The commission decided to hold consultations on optimizing the area of the subsoil plots mentioned by Frontera Resources," the press service said in a statement.

The commission also accepted for consideration an application filed by the Ukrainian company Navigator-Komplekt to implement a project on exploration and production of hydrocarbons, under a production sharing agreement on the Berestianska, Smelianska, Romanivska, Shubynska, and Novostepanivska sites in Lviv, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

Read alsoUkraine signs memo with U.S. Frontera on construction of LNG terminalMoreover, the commission also responded to Frontera Resources' application for the implementation of a hydrocarbon exploration and production project on the western Black Sea shelf under a production sharing agreement and recommended that the U.S. company consider the possibility of filing a joint application with Ukrainian gas producer Chornomornaftogaz, which holds special permits for the use of mineral resources at Odesa and Bezimenne sites.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the U.S.-based Frontera Resources Corporation in 2015 signed a memorandum of understanding with NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine. In particular, the two companies discussed issues of cooperation in the field of exploration and development of oil and gas fields in Ukraine. They also touched on a possible project of importing liquefied gas from the U.S. company's facilities in Georgia.
