Ukraine boosts revenue from farm produce exports by almost third in five months

Ukraine exported agricultural products worth US$7.51 billion in the first five months of 2017, which was 31.39% up year-over-year (y-o-y), according to the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry's press service.

"Ukrainian agrarian exports totaled $7.51 billion in January-May 2017, which was $1.79 billion up y-o-y," the report said.

Grain crops (38.1% of total farm produce exports), vegetable oil (27.4%), and oilseeds (8.6%) remained key export-oriented staples.

Ukrainian farmers over the period under review exported sunflower oil worth $1.98 billion, maize ($1.85 billion), wheat ($855.1 million), soybeans ($547.8 million), sunflower cake and other raw refuse ($385.8 million), sugar ($190.4 million), poultry and offal ($161.5 million). In addition, revenue from barley exports in January-May 2017 was $138.7 million, that from soybean oil was $56.09 million, bakery foods and confectionery $50.6 million, chocolate and other products containing cocoa $47.7 million, honey $45.1 million, and beans and peas $43.03 million.

Overall revenue from crop exports increased by $1.65 billion over the period under review, while revenue from exports of animal products rose by $458.7 million.

As UNIAN reported earlier, exports of Ukrainian farm produce rose by 4.5% in 2016 from 2015, to $15.5 billion, accounting for 42.5% of Ukraine's total exports, the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry said. Grain crops, vegetable oil, oilseeds, soybeans, sugar, and meat were traditional export-oriented staples. Among key markets were the Asian countries (45.9% of exports, worth $7 billion), the European Union (27.5% of exports, $4.2 billion), Africa (15.7% of exports, $2.4 billion), the CIS countries (7.7% of exports, $1.2 billion), and the United States (0.9% of exports, $45 million).
