Prosecutors raid Ukrenergo HQ as part of large-scale embezzlement case

Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) jointly with the National Police and the State Fiscal Service raided state-owned company Ukrenergo's headquarters in Kyiv on Wednesday as part of an investigation into embezzlement of public funds, according to the PGO's press service.

"The Prosecutor General's Office has been conducting a pre-trial investigation into a criminal scheme of embezzlement on a large scale, abuse of power or misuse of office, forgery of tender documents by Ukrenergo's managers in complicity with officials of the National Energy and Utility Regulations Commission and some business entities. They purchased goods, works and services from affiliated companies at much higher prices. The crimes fall under Part 5 of Article 191, Part 2 of Article 364, Part 2 of Article 366, and Part 3 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine," it said.

"Currently, the searches are being conducted throughout Ukraine as part of the criminal proceedings under a court ruling to identify and document the circumstances of the crime," it said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrenergo's press service reported on July 12 that the company's headquarters was being raided by the PGO.

What is more, Ukrenergo Acting Director Vsevolod Kovalchuk's house was also searched.

In October 2015, law enforcement agencies raided Ukrenergo's offices and former CEO Yuriy Kasich was suspended.
