Ukrainian, Georgian presidents agree to intensify free trade

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has announced he has agreed with his Georgian counterpart Giorgi Margvelashvili to facilitate economic partnership and deepen the free trade area.

"We've agreed to intensify economic partnership, remove all barriers, coordinate tariffs, including for rail and ferry services, and deepen the free trade area," he said at a joint press conference with the Georgian president.

"I am sure that the intergovernmental agreement on the direct international rail and ferry service through the ports of Ukraine and Georgia, which came into force on April 20 this year, will also have a positive impact on the formation of conditions for our economic relations and ferry transportation across the Black Sea," Poroshenko said.

Poroshenko started his state visit to Georgia on July 17. It is the first state visit by Ukraine's president to Georgia in the past 22 years.
