Ukraine-EU trade turnover up 22%

Trade turnover between Ukraine and the European Union in the first quarter of 2017 increased by 21.6%, the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade reported.

The growth of Ukrainian exports to the EU in this period amounted to 24.5%, while imports from the EU increased by 19.2%.

It is also reported that in January-April this year, the export of Ukrainian finished products to Europe increased by $411 million compared to the same period last year. In the commodity structure of exports of finished products, flat rolled carbon steel is the leader (up $68.9 million), insulated wires and cables (up $39.7 million), electric water heaters ($36.3 million) and sunflower cake (by $33.8 million).

At the same time, 60.2% of the exports of new commodity items were self-propelled bulldozers, excavators, and pipes.

"The government considers the Association Agreement with the EU as a beacon of our strategic reform, and has a clear consistent plan of concrete steps that we must take to maximize opportunities of the free trade with the European Union," Ukraine's Trade Representative Natalia Mikolskaya said in a comment.
