Ukraine boosts sunflower oil output by 35%

Ukraine produced 2.87 million tonnes of crude sunflower oil in January-June 2017, which was 34.9% up on 2016, according to the country's State Statistics Service.

In June 2017 alone, it produced 451,000 tonnes of sunflower oil, which was 8.1% up on the previous month and 42.5% up year-over-year.

Production of margarine and edible fat rose by 34.2% in January-June 2017, to 184,000 tonnes, the statistics agency said.

Yet, margarine and fat output in June 2017 was 14.7% up on May 2017 and 62.4% up on June 2016, totaling 18,600 tonnes.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine produced 4.4 million tonnes of crude sunflower oil in 2016, which was 20.2% up on 2015. However, production of margarine and edible fat shrank by 13.6% in 2016 from 2015, to 184,000 tonnes.

Ukraine is among the world's largest exporters of sunflower oil. In 2016, sunflower oil exports from Ukraine totaled 4.8 million tonnes, which was 23% up on 2015, the Ukroliyaprom Association reported.

Sunflower oil shipments abroad in monetary terms were estimated at US$4.8 billion against US$4.2 billion in 2015.
