The trade turnover between Ukraine and Japan since the beginning of 2017 has increased significantly, having grown almost by 40% over the four months compared with the same period last year, according to the press service of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, quoting Minister Stepan Kubiv as saying.

Mr Kubiv noted that in addition to the increased trade between the two countries, the Year of Japan in Ukraine is seeing many other positive Ukrainian-Japanese projects.

He stressed that in August 2017 negotiations will start on opening in Ukraine the office of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, JICA, which has previously provided large-scale financial and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine aimed at supporting reform and democratic institutions, promoting economic development, and restoring the war-torn regions of Donbas.

"Undoubtedly, this demonstrates the real success of Ukraine and the positive results of reform we’ve been implementing," Kubiv said, adding that an important vector of successful relations between Ukraine and Japan is the work of the Joint Committee on cooperation in improving response to emergency situations at nuclear power plants.
