French Engie may stop funding Nord Stream 2 due to U.S. sanctions

French energy company Engie may suspend funding for the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline if new U.S. sanctions against the Russian Federation are applied, Bloomberg reports with reference to Engie Deputy CEO Pierre Chareyre, according to Prime business news agency.

According to Chareyre, if the sanctions are applied, Engie may stop financing the project to avoid sanctions, Prime wrote.

At the same time, Engie is currently complying with the obligation to provide 10% of the total investment in the project, the risks of international sanctions may affect only future financial transfers, he said.
