The formation of the negative balance of the current account is explained by the growing deficit of foreign trade in goods and services, as well as by the growth of the negative balance of primary income account, in particular, due to the payment of dividends.

In general, the deficit of the current account in the first half amounted to US$1.6 billion, which was US$0.6 billion more than in the same period last year.

As UNIAN reported, Ukraine posted its balance of payments in 2016 with a surplus of US$1.346 billion, which was 1.6 times more than in 2015 when the surplus was US$849 million.

At the same time, the balance was positive for the second year in a row after a negative balance of US$13.3 billion in 2014.

The NBU forecasts that the deficit of the balance of payments by the end of 2017 might amount to US$4.3 billion, or 4.4% of GDP, and will remain US$4.3 billion in 2018 and 2019, falling to 4.1% and 3.7% of GDP, respectively.
