Poland's Balczun sums up his work as Ukrzaliznytsia CEO

CEO of Public Joint-Stock Company Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) Wojciech Balczun, commenting on his resignation, summing up the results of his work.

"The company's net profit amounted to UAH 122.5 million [US$4.8 million] for six months of 2017, which was UAH 3.9 billion up year-over-year (y-o-y), according to the international financial reporting standards," he wrote on Facebook.

According to him, Ukrzaliznytsia's credit policy has achieved considerable success.

"Financial obligations totaling UAH 8.7 billion [$338.1 billion] were repaid over the period from June 2016 to July 2017, while the loan portfolio decreased by 15%, or UAH 6.6 billion ($256.5 million), amounting to UAH 37.3 billion ($1.4 billion), as of August 1, 2017," he added.

Balczun noted that UAH 15.2 billion ($590.8 million) in taxes and mandatory payments to the budget and state trust funds were paid in 2016. Over UAH 8 billion ($310.9 million) has already been paid in six months of 2017, which is UAH 1.1 billion ($42.8 million) up y-o-y.

"Daily criticism was also an additional motivation for me. At the same time, I always realized the company's strategic importance, and what restrictions it imposed on my operations for the prosaic reason that I am a foreigner," he added.

Balczun thanked his family and Ukrainians for their support.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman at a government meeting on Wednesday, August 9, said that Ukrzaliznytsia CEO Woijciech Balczun submitted a resignation letter, stating he quits on personal grounds.

At the same Cabinet meeting, First Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and chair of the supervisory board at Ukrzaliznytsia Yevhen Kravtsov was appointed the company's acting chief.   

Balczun was appointed Ukrzaliznytsia CEO under a Cabinet order dated April 20, 2016, following an open contest.
