Farmers harvest 1.4 mln tonnes of early grain crops in Poltava region

Ukrainian farmers have completed early grain crop harvesting in Poltava region, Director of Agro-Industrial Development Department at Poltava Regional State Administration Serhiy Frolov told UNIAN on August 18.

According to him, the farmers received the better harvest than they predicted, given the two waves of April frosts and droughts.

"However, this year they [farmers] collected 1.4 million tonnes of grain which was several times down against the last year, when Poltava region harvested a record 6 million tonnes of grain. The average yield is estimated at 3.8 tonnes per hectare, which was 0.35 tonnes per hectare down from the past year. However, we projected even 3.4 tonnes per hectare," Frolov said.

Read alsoUkraine harvests 35.5 mln tonnes of grain as of Aug 11At the same time, he stressed that a good yield was reported in some regions, namely 4.6 tonnes of grain per hectare in Shyshaky district, 4.5 tonnes per hectare in Kotelva district, 4.6 tonnes per hectare in Mashivka district, and 4.6 tonnes per hectare in Novi Sanzhary district.
