The Cabinet of Ministers at its Friday meeting approved the Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2035, which provides for a twofold reduction in the energy intensity of the national economy.
"I propose that we approve it [the Energy Strategy] with a three-day revision and release it on condition of agreement with the profile Vice Prime Minister [Volodymyr Kistion]. The decision has been taken," Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said.
Introducing this decision, Kistion noted that the energy strategy was a program document outlining the whole range of large-scale reforms that need to be implemented in Ukraine’s energy sector in the period until 2035.

The vice prime minister said that in the course of the strategy’s development there were attempts to lay out (“fix”) in its text stimulating tariff formation and pricing for energy coal (known as the "Rotterdam +" formula). In response, Groysman said that "no one should fix anything [like that] in it."
As UNIAN reported earlier, in late February 2017 Groysman demanded that the representatives of the working group at the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry, which was developing the energy strategy, complete the preparation of the document in the second quarter of 2017.

The published project envisaged an increase in the share of electricity production by nuclear power plants in the total output balance for the period up to 2035. On August 10, the draft Energy Strategy was approved at a meeting of the government committee on economic, financial and legal policy.
