Iraq resumes Ukraine poultry products imports

Iraq has lifted restrictions on Ukrainian poultry products imports imposed earlier due to bird flu outbreaks in some regions of our country, according to the Ukrainian State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service's press service.

"Iraq has lifted a temporary ban on poultry products of Ukrainian origin, which were introduced due to registered outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the territory of our state. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, the decision has been recently adopted by the Iraqi government," the press service said in a statement.

Iraq resumed the imports of Ukrainian poultry on June 22, but only now has lifted the ban on the supply of all poultry products, the press service added.

Read alsoUAE lifts restrictions on Ukrainian poultry As UNIAN reported earlier, in mid-March, Yemen, Iraq, Jordan, Qatar, and China imposed temporary restrictions on exports of poultry meat and poultry products from all over Ukraine due to bird flu outbreaks. Moreover, the European Union, Saudi Arabia, and Hong Kong imposed the ban on imports of poultry meat, eggs, and poultry products from Ukrainian regions where bird flu outbreaks had been recorded.

Qatar lifted the ban on Ukrainian poultry imports on May 15, 2017, Saudi Arabia lifted the restriction on July 6, the UAE resumed the imports of Ukrainian poultry on August 3, and Jordan lifted the ban on August 16.

The outbreaks of bird flu in Ukraine were recorded in Kherson region in November 2016. Previous bird flu outbreaks were registered in Ukraine's Crimea in 2008 (four cases).

Noteworthy, the veterinary experts have not recorded bird flu outbreaks in Ukraine over the past three months.
