Ukraine boosts revenue from strawberry exports by half in H1

Ukrainian enterprises in January-June 2017 exported 1,580 tonnes of strawberries worth US$1.6 million, which 51% higher in monetary terms than the exports in the entire 2016, according to the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry's press service said.

"In the first half of 2017, Ukraine exported 1,580 tonnes of strawberries to the tune of $1.6 million, which in monetary terms is 51% more than for the entire 2016. In 2016, exports of these berries totaled 2,270 tonnes worth $1.06 million," it said.

Read alsoUkraine exports almost 6 mln tonnes of grain since July 1As was the case before, the main buyers of Ukrainian berries in January-June of 2017 were Belarus (1,300 tonnes worth US$1.35 million) and Moldova (227 tonnes for US$149,300).

At the same time, Ukraine imported 126 tonnes of strawberries worth US$303,600. The main suppliers of these berries were Greece (54.3 tonnes worth US$134,900), Turkey (32.2 tonnes worth US$60,100), and Spain (20.5 tonnes worth US$54,700).

As UNIAN reported, the Agrarian Policy Ministry reported that Ukrainian farm produce exports in 2016 grew by 4.5% from 2015, to US$15.5 billion. Traditionally, export-oriented staples in 2016 were cereals, vegetable oil and oilseeds, soybeans, sugar, and meat. The key markets were Asian countries (45.9% of exports, US$7 billion), the European Union (27.5%, US$4.2 billion), Africa (15.7%, US$2.4 billion), the FSU (7.7%, US$1.2 billion), and the United States (0.9%, US$45 million).
