Cabinet plans to pile up over 17 bcm of gas

Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Kistion has said Ukraine plans to pump no less than 17 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas into its underground storage facilities (USFs) by the beginning of the heating season.

"Currently, more than 14 bcm of gas has been pumped into USFs, which is two bcm up year-over-year. And I am sure that the tasks envisaged in the action plan, that is, at least 17 bcm, will be met, given the technical and technological capabilities we have today," he said at a government meeting on Wednesday.

Read alsoCabinet approves Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2035In preparation for the 2016-2017 heating season, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry also insisted on the need to accumulate 17 bcm of gas, while the management of the national oil and gas holding Naftogaz of Ukraine assured that 14.5 bcm would be enough.

As a result, Ukraine began the 2016-2017 heating season with gas reserves at 14.7 bcm, completing it with 8.4 bcm.
