Inflation in Ukraine accelerates to 16.2% in August

Inflation in Ukraine in August 2017 accelerated to 16.2% from August 2016 against 15.9% in July 2017 from July 2016, according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

At the same time, Ukraine saw 0.1% deflation in August 2017 from July 2017 after 0.2% inflation in July 2017 from June 2017, it said.

Consumer prices in January-August 2017 grew by 14.4%.

The highest growth in August 2017 from August 2016 was demonstrated by prices of vegetables, which were 40.4% up, while prices of creamery butter rose by 30% and those of milk and meat increased by 28.9% and 28.7%, respectively, it said.

The State Statistics Service of Ukraine said that the report did not include data from Russian-occupied Crimea, Sevastopol, and Donbas.

As UNIAN reported earlier, inflation in Ukraine in July 2017 slowed to 0.2% from June 2017 against 1.6% in June 2017 from May 2017. However, inflation in July 2017 accelerated to 15.6% compared to July 2016 against 15.6% in June 2017 compared to June 2016.

The National Bank of Ukraine forecasts 9.1% inflation in 2017, while the forecasts of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank do not exceed 10%.
