Ukraine's Cabinet elaborates industrial development strategy

The Ukrainian Economic Development and Trade Ministry plans to present in December the country's industrial development strategy, designed to ensure the growth of investment and economy, according to the ministry's press service.

"The Economic Development Ministry's expert group has completed work on the first chapters of the strategy. The document is expected to be submitted for public discussion as early as December 2017," the report said.

At the same time, the ministry noted that publicly available information and simplification of expertise in the subsoil, as well as simplification of access to geological information, water resources and electricity grids, construction regulation, and the introduction of a single digital register of wood should become the government's primary steps in the industrial sphere.

"The ministry is working on the industrial development in two directions: drawing up the industrial development strategy and prompt actions to simplify the conditions for Ukrainian producers in various industries and stimulate production," Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Maksym Nefyodov said.

Read alsoGroysman: Further economic success depends on Ukraine’s machine-building industryThe ministry also informed that the Ukrainian Institute for the Future had prepared proposals for the strategy in six key industries: mining, metallurgy, chemical and petrochemical industry, energy, food industry, and machine building. According to the institute, successful implementation of 21 proposals will attract US$2.3 billion in investment and create an additional $4.3 billion of GDP.

As UNIAN reported, according to Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, the development of Ukraine's industry, in particular, the engineering sector, will allow to ensure at least 5% economic growth per year. Industrial production in Ukraine increased by 1.2% in August 2017 year-over-year (y-o-y) without taking into account the adjustment for the effect of calendar days, after a 2.6% fall in July 2017 y-o-y, according to the Ukrainian State Statistics Service.

The industrial production grew by 3% in August 2017 from July 2017, without taking into account seasonal adjustment, while rose by 2.2% with such adjustment.
