Large and medium-sized Ukrainian enterprises produced 5.3 million tonnes of sunflower oil in the previous 2016-2017 marketing year (MY, September 2016 – August 2017), which is 46% higher than the previous season, setting a record over the years of Ukraine's independence, according to UkrAgroConsult.
Taking into account small and medium-sized processors, the volume of sunflower oil production in the 2016-2017 MY exceeds 6.4 million tonnes.
According to the report, by the end of the current season, sunflower processing in Ukraine has traditionally decreased. In August 2017, the production of sunflower oil by large and medium-sized enterprises amounted to 153,400 tonnes, down 51% as compared to the previous month. However, the record harvest of sunflower last year allowed to double the August 2016 figure at the end of the marketing year, to 71,300 tonnes.

Ukraine is among the world's largest exporters of sunflower oil. In 2016, sunflower oil exports from Ukraine totaled 4.8 million tonnes, which was 23% up on 2015, the Ukroliyaprom Association reported.
Sunflower oil shipments abroad in monetary terms were estimated at US$4.8 billion against US$4.2 billion in 2015.
