U.S.-based Intel could close Ukraine office – media

American Intel, the largest manufacturer of microprocessors, might close its office in Ukraine, AIN.ua reports.

"A few days ago, partners cooperating with the local office received a letter with a request to return samples of products 'in connection with the liquidation of Intel Ukraine,'" the report says.

Nevertheless, according to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, the Ukrainian legal entity Intel is not yet in the process of liquidation. Head of the company's representative offices in Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova, Dmitry Kalita, responded to the request of the edition: "The company does not comment on its business decisions. As of October 4, nothing changed in the work of the Ukrainian office."

The Ukrainian office of Intel was founded in 1992, and since the beginning of 2000s, Belarus and Moldova have also fallen into its area of responsibility. The main functions of the office are sales and support, although over the years, it has cooperated in various fields with the state, implementing various initiatives in the field of education, supporting local events.

According to IDC research company, after the fall of the Ukrainian PC market in 2013-2015, one of the main markets for Intel showed growth starting from last year. For the first half of 2017, computer shipments to Ukraine increased by 27.3% compared to last year, up to 550,000 devices. The server market for the same period grew by 20%, amounting to almost $19 million.

This year, Intel introduced a new family of processors for computers and laptops Intel X, which includes improved versions of Core i5 and Core i7, a new model Core i9 and the world's first consumer processor for PCs with 18 Core i9 Extreme cores.
