U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch estimates that Ukraine may lose US$2.7 billion in annual transit revenue due to the launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to transport Russian gas across the Baltic Sea in circumvention of Ukraine.
Nord Stream 2 will reduce gas transit shipments across Ukraine, which may lose US$2.7 billion per year, or 3% of GDP, she said at the Oil and Gas 2017 conference in Kyiv on October 24.

Russia's Gazprom has repeatedly announced plans to reduce or even stop gas transit via Ukrainian territory. Russia has been lobbying actively the construction of two bypassing gas shipment routes: Nord Stream 2 via the Baltic Sea and the Turkish Stream via the Black Sea.
