The deal is estimated at over $15 billion.

"The deal appeared to surprise Boeing's archrival Airbus, whose staff had attended a long-delayed news conference and left the room just moments before the announcement," the Fortune business magazine wrote.

The Boeing 787-10 typically lists for $312.8 million. Delivery will begin in 2022.

Azerbaijan Airlines, in turn, announced plans to buy five Boeing 787-8s and two cargo aircraft from Boeing. The deal is estimated at over $1 billion.

Qatar Airways is not attending the event because of a diplomatic crisis that erupted in June 2017 between Qatar and four states, namely Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt.
