Coal stocks at Ukrainian TPPs soar by 9% within week

Stocks of coal at Ukrainian thermal power plants (TPP) increased by 9% on November 8-15, 2017, to 1.197 million tonnes, according to the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Ministry's press service.

At the same time, anthracite reserves shrank by 1.3%, from 507,400 tonnes to 500,700 tonnes, it said.

Meanwhile, gas grade coal stocks were up 18%, from 590,200 tonnes to 696,300 tonnes.

However, there has been a shortage of the latter since the output of gas coal did not keep pace with its consumption growth. To solve the problem, the companies signed contracts for coal imports from South Africa and the United States.
