Ukrainians paid $132 mln in subsidies for utilities in 10 months

Over UAH 3.49 billion, or US$132 million, in subsidies from the national budget was paid to Ukrainian households to compensate housing and utilities costs in January-October 2017, which was 8.7% up year-over-year (y-o-y), according to the Ukrainian State Statistics Service.

In particular, subsidies worth UAH 2.5 billion ($94.4 million) were paid to residents in the urban areas, while UAH 995 million ($37.6 million) was paid to rural residents, it said.

Subsidies for housing and utilities in January-October 2017 were assigned to 8.16 million households (106.2% of those who applied for subsidies – this includes households that applied in 2016). Some 5.6 million families entitled to subsidies live in the urban areas, while 2.6 million households that received compensation for utilities reside in the rural areas. The number of families with assigned subsidies over the period under review increased by 44.8% y-o-y, the service reported.

As UNIAN reported earlier, subsidies to reimburse housing and utilities costs in January-September 2017 were estimated at UAH 3.34 billion ($126 million), which was 22.8% up y-o-y.

Ukrainian residents in 2016 received UAH 5.7 billion ($215.2 million) in housing and utilities subsidies from the budget, which was 58%, or UAH 3.3 billion ($124.6 million), up from 2015.
