Ukraine's government reports gender pay gap shrinks in H1

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Pavlo Rozenko announced at the first Ukrainian Women's Congress on November 22 that women's average monthly salary in Ukraine accounted for a mere 80% of the average monthly salary of men in the first half of 2017 (H1), according to the official's press service.

"In the first half of 2017, the average monthly salary of women accounted for only 80% of men's average monthly pay. Of course, we see a certain improvement in the situation compared to previous years, when this indicator was 70%, or even less. But it is obvious that we have room for improvement," the press service quoted Rozenko on Facebook as saying.

"But obviously it isn't enough because we understand perfectly well that the issue of remuneration is very closely linked to the social protection of families, including women's pension provision in future," he added.

The official also stressed that the Cabinet of Ministers would continue to ensure decent working conditions, equality of rights and wages both for women and men.

As UNIAN reported earlier, men's average monthly wages in H1 2017 exceeded those of women by 26.6%, according to the State Statistics Service.

Over the period under review, the average monthly salary of a full-time male employee in Ukraine was UAH 7,779 ($292), while that of a full-time female employee stood at UAH 6,243 ($234).
