State-run Ukrtransgaz, the operator of Ukraine's gas transport system (GTS), boosted investment in the modernization and maintenance of the gas pipelines by 18.2% in the nine months of 2017 compared to the same period of 2017, to UAH 3.072 billion, according to the company's press service.
"In the nine months of this year, Ukrtransgaz injected UAH 3 billion in the modernization and technical support of the Ukrainian GTS. The sum includes UAH 1.540 billion spent on capital investment, UAH 789 million on repairs and maintenance, and UAH 743 million on a program to supply materials and equipment," the company said.

From July to September, the largest projects where capital investment was injected were the reconstruction of a gas processing unit of the Bilche-Volytsya gas booster station in Lviv region, an overhaul of a 27km-long section of the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhgorod main transit gas pipeline, and reconstruction of a gas dehydration plant of the Chervonopartyzansky underground gas storage facility in Chernihiv region.
"This makes it possible to extend the period of the reliable operation of Ukraine's GTS for decades, thereby guaranteeing stable transportation of gas to both European and Ukrainian consumers," the company noted.
In the first half of 2017, Ukrtransgaz boosted investment in GTS modernization and maintenance by 64%, to UAH 2.321 billion.
UNIAN memo. Ukrtransgaz operates 12 underground gas storage facilities (USFs) with a total working capacity of about 31 bcm. The USFs are an integral part of Ukraine's gas supply system and gas transit through its territory. The company is also the operator of the main gas pipelines, through which natural gas is exported from the Russian Federation to the EU countries. Naftogaz of Ukraine owns 100% of Ukrtransgaz shares.
