Ukraine harvests 60 mln tonnes of grain as of Nov 29

Ukrainian farmers have harvested 59.9 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops from 14 million hectares (96% of the target) as of November 29, with an average yield of 4.26 tonnes per hectare, according to the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry's press service.

In particular, 21.6 million tonnes of maize was threshed from an area of 4 million hectares (90%) with an average yield of 5.36 tonnes per hectare.

It was reported earlier that Ukrainian farmers had finished harvesting buckwheat and millet, having threshed 200,000 tonnes of the product from 181,000 hectares (100%), and 83,000 tonnes from 56,000 hectares (100%), respectively.

In addition, the agrarians harvested 11.9 million tonnes of sunflower from an area of 5.92 million hectares (99%), 3.7 million tonnes of soybeans from 1.9 million hectares (98%), as well as dug 14.4 million tonnes of sugar beet from 314,000 hectares (99%).

A total of 14.3 million hectares was sown by grain crops (including 7.15 million hectares – by winter crops). The total area of planting crops for the harvest of 2017 is estimated at 26.9 million hectares, which is 152,000 hectares more than in 2016.

Ukrainian farmers planted 8.1 million hectares of winter crops and green forage in 2016, which was 3.8% up against 2015. At the same time, the area for grain crops increased by 1.5%, to 7,200 hectares, the State Statistics Service said.
