Ukraine sees 14.6% rise in foreign trade deficit over 10 months

The deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods and services in January-October 2017 was estimated at US$4.998 billion, which was 14.6% up from a deficit year-over-year (y-o-y), according to the website of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

The deficit of foreign trade in commodities over the period under review grew by 30.2% y-o-y, to $7.012 billion, while the surplus of foreign trade in services doubled, to $2.014 billion.

The deficit of foreign trade stood at $746 million in October 2017 alone. In particular, there was a $991 million deficit of trade in goods, while trade in services saw a $245 million surplus.

However, the National Bank of Ukraine said that Ukraine's foreign trade in goods and services showed a deficit of $5.581 billion in 2016.
