Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli told journalists Wednesday that the European Union would consider Ukraine's application for a new program of macro-financial assistance over the next few months.
He recalled that Ukraine had applied for a new program of macro-financial assistance, and the European Commission would assess the country’s needs for external financing, and then determine the feasibility of the new program.
According to Mingarelli, if there is a positive decision, the European Commission will submit in the next few months an offer to the European Parliament and the Council of Europe.

The communique published on the website of the European Commission says that the EU cannot allocate for Ukraine the third tranche worth EUR 600 million under the current macro-financial assistance program totaling EUR 1.8 billion approved in 2015, as Kyiv has not fulfilled a number of conditions for obtaining the disbursement. At the same time, the communique does not mention either the allocation of a tranche of macro-financial assistance or the volume of the new program.
In 2015, the EU offered Ukraine a package of macro-financial repayable assistance amounting to EUR 1.8 billion. Within the framework of this program, Ukraine has received EUR 1.2 billion.
The allocation of the next credit tranche was suspended until the Verkhovna Rada adopts the required bills on the abolition of roundwood export ban, as well as the support of IDPs. In 2016 Ukraine did not receive any credit tranches from the EU.
According to the European Commission, since 2014 Ukraine has received a total of EUR 2.61 billion of macro-financial assistance, including EUR 1.61 billion in 2014-2015 and EUR 1.2 billion under the current program in 2015-2017.
