EBRD to lend EUR 25 mln for Ukraine's MHP for construction of biogas plant in Vinnytsia region

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has decided to extend a EUR 25 million loan to Ukraine's major chicken meat producer PJSC Myronivsky Hliboproduct (MHP) for the construction of a new biogas plant in Vinnytsa region, according to MHP CEO Yuriy Kosyuk.

After all the lines have been built, the facility will become the world's largest producer of biogas based on organic waste with a capacity of up to 20 MW, he said on Facebook.

"This ambitious project is an ongoing implementation of MHP's comprehensive strategy on the country's energy independence. Moreover, the launch of the enterprise is a significant contribution of our holding to the overall improvement of the environmental situation in the country," Kosyuk wrote.

He says that the construction of the new biogas plant is another proof that MHP is moving in the right direction, and another proof of the European institutions' trust in Ukrainian businesses.

As UNIAN reported earlier, according to the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine, the country has the potential to produce 9.5 billion cubic meters of biogas (methane) per year from agricultural and food waste, which is equivalent to the annual replacement of 2.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas. At the same time, the total potential of poultry farms is estimated at 377.7 million cubic meters of biogas.

UNIAN memo. PJSC Myronivsky Hliboproduct is a Ukrainian major poultry meat producer. In addition to poultry farming and related industries, the holding is engaged in the production of corn, sunflower, wheat, rapeseed, fruit, as well as beef and sausages. The company's land bank is 370,000 hectares.

In 2016, MHP received US$69 million in net profit against $113 million in net loss in 2015. The holding's revenue grew by 7% in 2016, to $1.135 billion.
