Ukraine and Portugal may start the joint development of a firefighting aircraft on the basis of Ukraine's state-owned aircraft enterprise Antonov, according to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's press secretary Svyatoslav Tsegolko.
"Ukraine has offered Portugal the development of a joint firefighting aircraft on the basis of Antonov," he tweeted on Monday, December 18.
This offer was announced by Poroshenko at a meeting with his Portuguese counterpart Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in Lisbon on December 18.
"We propose we develop a joint project to manufacture firefighting aircraft on the basis of Antonov. We are confident it will enhance security in Portugal and will be a very successful and effective project of our cooperation," Poroshenko said.
