Ukrenergo sets up center to counter cyber attacks

State-owned operator of Ukraine's united power grids Ukrenergo, whose information systems have repeatedly encountered cyber attacks, has created a cyber security incident response center to counter possible cyber threats, according to the company's press service.

"In terms of cyber security, a number of measures have been taken after cyber attacks on Ukrenergo's information systems in 2015, 2016 and 2017. The company has created a cyber security incident response center, a team that performs tasks to counter threats and minimize the consequences of cyber attacks," the company said.

"The probability of cyber attacks always exists. We need to be prepared to take preventive measures, improve methods of detection and counteraction [to attacks] and constantly evolve. The company's IT and information security specialists are fully engaged in these activities," the press service added.

Ukrenergo also is involved in the creation of an information security management system in line with international standards.

In addition, as part of the exchange of experience in countering cyber attacks, Ukrenergo's representatives took part in a number of key events, including those organized by the U.S. Agency for International Development and the U.S. Energy Association.
