The number of the unemployed in Ukraine calculated by the methodology of the International Labor Organization (ILO) for persons aged 15 to 70 decreased to 1.6 million people (8.9%) in the third quarter of 2017 (Q3) from 1.77 million people (9.9%) in 2016, according to the Ukrainian State Statistics Service.
The employment rate of the population aged 15 to 70 was 57% in Q3 2017, while that of the working-age population was 65.5%.
The unemployment rate among the economically active population was 9.1% in Q2 2017.
"According to the results of a sample survey of the population engaged in economic activity, the number of employed people aged 15 to 70 in the third quarter of 2017 stood at 16.4 million people, while the overall number of unemployed was 1.6 million people," the report said.
The employment rate of the population aged 15 to 70 was at 57% in Q3 2017, which was 0.2 percentage points more than in Q2 2017. This indicator increased by 0.4 percentage points among the working-age population, to 65.5%.

The data did not include reports from temporarily occupied areas in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, as well as the Anti-Terrorist Operation zone in the east of Ukraine.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the number of the unemployed in Ukraine was 390,800 people in 2016, which accounted for 1.5% of the country's working-age population, according to the State Statistics Service.
