Individuals transfer over $5 bln from abroad to Ukraine in nine months

The amount of private transfers of money from abroad to Ukraine in the nine months of 2017 was $5.192 billion, which was 29.6%, or $1.187 billion, up on the same period of 2016, according to the National Bank of Ukraine.

Some $2.093 billion was transferred through banks' correspondent accounts, $1.67 billion via international payment systems and $1.429 billion through informal channels, the NBU said.

In particular, transfers from the United States in the nine months grew by 24.6%, to $547 million, while transfers from Russia fell by 39.3%, to $460 million.

As a result of this, the U.S. occupied the first place in terms of private transfers of money to Ukraine, having ousted the former leader, Russia.

Along with the U.S. and Russia, the top ten countries in terms of private transfers of money to Ukraine were Germany ($252 million), the United Kingdom ($243 million), Cyprus ($219 million), Israel ($201 million), Italy ($165 million), Greece ($138 million), Poland ($117 million), and the United Arab Emirates ($91 million).

As UNIAN reported earlier, money remittances to Ukraine in 2016 amounted to $5.425 billion, which was 5.3% up on 2015.
