In October 2016, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a law on the prolongation of the moratorium until 2018. The document also instructed the Cabinet to develop and submit for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada a bill on the circulation of agricultural land before July 1, 2017.

The Verkhovna Rada registered two bills on the turnover of agricultural land for the time being. The government planned to file the relevant bill in autumn. However, this did not happen.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on December 30, Poroshenko signed the law amending Section 10 "Transitional Provisions" of the Land Code of Ukraine, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on December 7, 2017. The document extends the validity of the moratorium on sale or alienation of farmland for one year.
