Ukraine doubles commissioning of renewable energy facilities

The capacity of new Ukrainian renewable energy facilities commissioned in 2017 and operating under green tariff increased by 2.1 times from 2016, to 257 MW, according to the Ukrainian National Energy and Utilities Regulation Commission.

In particular, solar power plants accounted for 82% of the new facilities, while the average unit capacity of the facilities commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2017 was 4 MW, it said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on October 1, 2014, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers approved the national renewable energy action plan until 2020, which provides for an increase in the share of renewables in the total electricity generation balance from about 1% to 11%.

The main incentive of renewable energy generation in Ukraine is the so-called green or feed-in tariff, which is legislatively set higher than other power rates.
