Euro 4 fuel outlawed in Ukraine from Jan 1

The sale of motor fuels of the Euro 4 environmental class was outlawed in Ukraine from January 1, 2018, according to the technical regulations for motor petrol, diesel fuel, marine fuel and boiler oil, which were approved by the Cabinet of Ministers way back on August 1, 2013.

Ukraine virtually switched to Euro 5 types of petrol at the end of 2017, Oleksandr Sirenko, an analyst from the UPECO fuel consultancy, told UNIAN. A minor exception was the production of Euro 4 A-80 petrol by Ukrgazvydobuvannia under an ongoing contract with the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.

In his words, such local producers as the Kremenchuk oil refinery and the Shebelynka gas processing plant produce the Euro 5 diesel fuel.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Kremenchuk refinery launched the production of Euro 5 compliant diesel fuel in the middle of February 2017.

In October 2016, Ukrgazvydobuvannia switched to the production of Euro 5 diesel fuel at the facilities of the Shebelynka plant.

Sulfur limits of 50 parts per million, or ppm (so called Euro 4) and 10 ppm (Euro 5) are regulated by Directive 2003/17/EC.
