Some 2.6 mln tourists visit Lviv in 2017, spend over EUR 600 mln

Lviv City Council's tourism office has reported that 2.6 million tourists visited the western Ukrainian city of Lviv in 2017, having spent EUR 615 million during their stay, according to the news outlet ZAXID.NET.

Ukrainians, Poles and Belarusians visit the city most often. The top ten countries whose residents love to travel to Lviv also include Turkey, Germany, the United States, Lithuania, Great Britain, the Czech Republic, and Canada, ZAXID.NET wrote.

"We use three sources of information for tourism market research: a face-to-face survey of visitors, statistics provided by tourist information centers, and data of the Lviv Tourist Barometer online system, which gathers information from tourist accommodation establishments," Lviv City Council's Tourism Office CEO Halyna Malets said.

As reported, one tourist spends about EUR 75 a day on the average during a 4.4-day period of stay in Lviv. Only a quarter of tourists travel on their own, while the rest prefer traveling with friends, family or as members of tourist groups.

The city's most popular tourist attractions are the Lviv National Opera, the Lviv Town Hall, and the Lviv High Castle. Visits to numerous restaurants and cafes, as well as cultural institutions, and long walks around the city are considered to be the best ways of spending time in the city.

Malets also noted that about 250,000 people visited Lviv in the first two weeks of 2018.

"We have not made a thorough analysis, but according to the data we received from hotels and tourist information centers, about a quarter of a million people have already visited the city [in 2018]," she said.
