President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on January 18 proposed to dismiss from the post of Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Valeriya Gontareva, who had earlier filed a resignation letter, and appoint to the post Yakov Smolii, who is currently an acting head of the NBU.
Drafts of relevant resolutions of the Verkhovna Rada were registered in Parliament today, January 18 (No.7500 and No.7501), while their texts have not yet been made public.
As UNIAN reported earlier, head of the NBU Valeriya Gontareva, after three years in office, submitted to President Petro Poroshenko a resignation letter of May 10, 2017, and went on a long vacation.

According to the Constitution of Ukraine, the head of state must submit to the Verkhovna Rada a new candidate for the post of head of the NBU.
Before the dismissal, the head of the NBU must report to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
