Ukraine sees retail trade grow by 8.8% in 2017, to over $28 bln

Retail turnover over the period under review increased most in Zakarpattia region (by 17.2%, to UAH 18.31 billion).

Retail trade in Ukraine grew by 8.8% in 2017 against 2016 (in comparable prices), to UAH 816.553 billion (US$28.3 billion).

However, the Ukrainian State Statistics Service has not provided statistics in monetary terms before.

At the same time, last year the agency reported that in 2016 retail turnover amounted to UAH 1.159 trillion ($40.1 billion), which was UAH 337 billion ($11.7 billion) up against 2017.

According to the statistics service, comparing data from the relevant periods of the previous year would not be correct, as the calculation methodology has changed since the beginning of 2017.

The growth of retail trade in 2017 slowed most in Volyn region (by 5.8%, to UAH 15.336 billion).

Retail trade in December 2017 alone rose by 16.1% year-over-year.

Turnover of enterprises involved in retail trade in 2017 was estimated at UAH 587.784 billion, or $20.4 billion, which was 8.6% up against 2016.

As UNIAN reported earlier, retail trade in Ukraine increased by 3.7% in 2016 from 2015 (in comparable prices), to UAH 1.159 trillion, or $40.1 billion.
