Core inflation in Ukraine accelerates to 9.8%

Reports from temporarily occupied areas in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, and Donbas are not included.

Ukraine's core inflation accelerated to 9.8% in January 2018 from January 2017 against 9.5% in December 2017 from December 2016.

However, core inflation in January 2018 compared to December 2017 slowed to 0.7% from 0.8% in December 2017 compared to November 2017, Ukraine's State Statistics Service said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, inflation in Ukraine in 2017 (in December 2017 from December 2016) accelerated to 13.7% compared to 12.4% inflation in 2016.

Core inflation represents the long run trend in the price level. In measuring long-run inflation, transitory price changes should be excluded. One way of accomplishing this is by excluding items frequently subject to volatile prices, like food and energy.
