Banking system’s losses down six-fold over year - NBU

The annual loss amounted to almost UAH 26 billion taking into account insolvent financial institutions.

The banking system of Ukraine, including both solvent and insolvent financial institutions, saw UAH 25.972 billion in losses in 2017, which is six times less than an all-time low of 2016.

According to the data released on the website of the National Bank of Ukraine, solvent banks in 2017 reported a UAH 24.360 billion loss, while insolvent ones saw a loss of UAH 1.612 billion.

In total, 64 out of 82 solvent banks received profits amounting to UAH 15.925 billion, while the remaining 18 solvent banks recorded a UAH 40.284 billion loss.

The biggest losses over the year were reported at PrivatBank (UAH 22.966 billion), Prominvestbank (UAH 7.656 billion), and VTB Bank (UAH 4.112 billion).

As UNIAN reported earlier, the banking system of Ukraine in 2016 updated the historical maximum for losses, having recorded a negative financial result at UAH 160.143 billion, taking into account insolvent banks. The second lowest loss was reported in 2015 – at UAH 66.6 billion.
