Ukraine sees decline in cattle, pig livestock

The livestock of cattle in Ukraine as of February 1, 2018, numbered 3.58 million head, which was 4.5% down year-over-year (y-o-y).

The number of pigs as of February 1, 2018, decreased by 8.2%, to 5.9 million, while the number of sheep and goats was 5% down, to 1.29 million head.

However, the poultry population increased by 2.5%, to 199.9 million birds.

The State Statistics Service said the data excluded reports from temporarily occupied areas in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, and Donbas.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the livestock of cattle in Ukraine as of February 1, 2017, numbered 3.63 million head, which was 1.5% down y-o-y. In particular, the population of cows was reduced by 2.1%, to 2.06 million head. The number of pigs decreased by 8.2%, to 6.12 million head, whereas the population of sheep and goats rose by 1%, to 1.32 million head. Ukraine's poultry population grew by 1.7%, to 205.1 million birds.
