Ukraine's Vice Prime Minister, Minister for Strategic Industries Oleh Urusky says the government has been working toward possible cooperation with the aircraft production giant Boeing, including on the issue of localizing part of production in the Ukrainian territory.

"I don't rule out that we will reach out to Boeing with these proposals during my visit to the United States, in particular regarding the possible localization of this company's aircraft production at our [Kyiv-based] Antonov enterprise," he told Army FM radio in an interview, as reported by the MinProm information agency.

Urusky said Boeing, like many other companies, had faced a significant drop in new orders over coronacrisis.

"Now everyone is looking for new markets and opportunities. We are setting ambitious goals before ourselves to develop our military aviation. I hope that cooperation with Boeing will be beneficial to us in this regard," he said.

According to Urusky, an order for four An-74 aircraft is being drafted this year in addition to the contract signed by the Defense Ministry with Antonov late last year on the production of three An-178 planes.

The minister said the first An-178 would be delivered in 2023.
